  • Surprised that so many people are shocked by Federer. Like 90% of tennis players have tantrums when they're young. Why do so many people cry when someone smashes racket, they're not hurting anyone at least not intentionally.

    • Berdy hit the ball, it bounced, Rafa returned it then the umpire called Berdy’s shot out. Replay showed it was in. What should happen next: since the call came after Rafa hit it, if he missed the shot then he would lose the point. If he made the shot, they’d replay the point. In this case, his shot landed in, so it should be a replay. What happened: the umpire awarded the point to Berdy because “the call came after your (Rafa’s) shot”, and didn’t take into account the fact that Rafa‘a shot was in.

  • If the umpire had let Nadal challenge that call and not interfere, then Nadal should've lost the point. BUT it was the umpire who stopped the point, and Berdych who challenged. SO the point should've been replayed as Nadal's next shot landed in

    Tom DeversonTom DeversonIl y a 18 jours
    • @QincentRusca Jr hahah Nadal's reaction had nothing to do with Berdych's 'shhhh' before. He just stick to the fact that Carlos called out.

Jon bones MahomesJon bones MahomesIl y a 15 jours
    • @QincentRusca Jr Nadal WANTED to challenge but instead Carlos called it out and let Berdych challenge which basically screwed himself and he screwed Nadal with it

      Andy AronAndy AronIl y a 16 jours
    • @QincentRusca Jr Yeah but in the end it wasn't Nadal who challenged but Berdych because the umpire called the ball out as well, so I kinda understand Nadal's frustration a bit.

    • This is garbage. Watch the clip, Nadal challenges, then the umpire says "out". And regardless, Nadal challenged the call that it was in, therefore he elected to stop the point. He was wrong, So he loses. And if he had more class hed recognise that and given the point to Berdych anyway. But he really hates Berdych after his "shhh" celebration when he beat Nadal in Spain, so clearly his emotions got the better of him here

  • Rafa stopped the point and challenged. BEFORE the umpire had a chance to call the ball out. Ball was confirmed in - Rafa loses point.

    Ville MetsolaVille MetsolaIl y a 18 jours
    • @Ville Metsola Nop, the action of the referee does matters on this case. You can hear him say "Thomas Berdych is challenging the call". If it's Berdych who callenged, then Rafa cannot lose the point. What we can agree on is that Bernardes made a mess out of it, if he didn't THEN in that case of course Rafa should have lost the point

      Eduardo SoaresEduardo SoaresIl y a 17 jours
    • @Tom Deverson No, Rafa stopped and challenged before the ump did. So what the ump did afterwards didn't matter. Ball was confirmed in, Rafa stopped playing and challenged - thus he lost the point.

      Ville MetsolaVille MetsolaIl y a 18 jours
    • Nope incorrect, he didn't challenge, umpire stopped the point at the same time Rafa went to challenge, so it was Berdych who actually challenged. Should've been replayed

      Andy AronAndy AronIl y a 16 jours
    • @Andy Aron if Nadal stopped and wanted to challenge, and the ball was in, how is it fair to replay the point? It should be Berdych's point, since if Nadal challenged, Berdych would have won the point.

      GlobglogabgalabGlobglogabgalabIl y a 16 jours
    • @Globglogabgalab Carlos made the mistake of calling it out himself and ignored the fact that Nadal stopped and wanted to challenge. A replay wouldve been the only fair decision.

      Andy AronAndy AronIl y a 16 jours
    • @Bilal Attal I understand why you would think they should have rrplayed the point, but look at Nadal before the call was made. He was ready to challenge. Let's say Carlos does not make the overrule (which he shouldn't have). Nadal challenges the call, he's wrong, and Berdych wins the point. If they replayed, it would be unfair to Nadal because the umpire overruled a second before Nadal was going to challenge. See my point?

      GlobglogabgalabGlobglogabgalabIl y a 17 jours
    • @Bilal Attal For me breaking rackets is entertaining, that's just my opinion and many people will agree with me. The video "Angry Tennis Players Smashing Rackets!!!" has 3.5 million views, similar to Grand Slam Final Highlights. But what I meant was, that it is also an asset of a good tennis player to be able to serve within 25 seconds. Every other player has his own problems like Rafa has sweating, but all of them have to cope with it and play within the rules. You cannot just say "he can break the rules because he then plays better tennis".

      Tom DeversonTom DeversonIl y a 18 jours
    • The referee did an overule and ignored Rafa's challenge so it was Berdych who challenged. You can hear Bernardes saying "Thomas Berdych is challenging the call...". If it's Berdych who callenged, then Rafa cannot lose the point

    • @hamad habib Yeah, umpires can really make things a pain to work out.

      Jim_Kirk1Jim_Kirk1Il y a 18 jours
    • But the argument here is that the umpire called it out late after nadal stops the point. Normally, if someone stops the point and challenges(nadal in this instance) and it is in, he loses the point instantly. On the other hand, if the umpire calls out and the other player (berdych in this instance) challenges and it is in, they replay the point. But in this case, its a mesh of the two, where nadal stops the point and then the umpire calls out. He shouldve just let nadal challenge and then that is it. Its the umpires mistake for making it complicated.

    • @下澤直哉 Nadal stopped to challenge, believing the ball was out. The umpire called it out right after, but instead of letting Nadal challenge, kept his call and asked Berdych to challenge. And here is the umpire's mistake: Berdych shouldn't have been the one challenging, since Nadal stopped in the first place. Once you let Bedych challenge, then you have to replay the point, since Nadal's return was in. The umpire did a bit of a mess: whatever he was going to rule at the point, he would have made one of the two players angry. And rightly so.

    • Up until I believe 2007 all Masters finals and the ATP Finals finals were best of 5. They changed it in 2008 because I think it made things trickier to schedule, both in terms of tournament scheduling and TV scheduling.
